Overview
Lady Umbrella is a 3D action-adventure shooter in which the player is special agent Francesca De Angelis, known as Lady Umbrella. While infiltrating the last mafia family in Italy, she is betrayed and framed by her partner. She must clear her name, escape her own agency and take down the mafia with her main weapon: an umbrella that works as a shield when open, a shotgun when closed, and carries several gadgets.
My contributions
Game design
Helped define the game's pillars, core loops, progression and pacing, improving the clarity and flow of the whole experience.
Level design
Designed Level 2 (Art Gallery) from layout and blockout to final dressing. Players fight on the gallery floor and, when the security system goes off, cross a vertical route through backstage areas, light rigs and exhibits. Also worked on the tutorial and Level 1 (Italian Streets).
Technical design
Scripted Level 2's security system in Blueprints (cinematics, door states and a laser hazard) and built the enemy turn manager that decides when enemies advance, take cover or shoot.
Systems design and balancing
Responsible for gameplay systems design: the umbrella's mechanics and upgrade economy based on collectible parts, ammunition and drop rates, and the difficulty curve across levels.
Combat encounters
Designed the encounters of the early levels, iterating layouts, enemy setups and pressure to make fights more engaging and readable.
QA and documentation
Ran structured playtests, documented bugs and balance issues, verified fixes, and kept systems and encounters documented for the other departments.
